Fill the gaps of any missing teeth with new dentures or ‘false teeth’ here at The Hive Dental Clinic with our award-winning Clinical Dental Technician (Denturist) and our award-winning dental laboratory in Bournemouth.
Dentures are false teeth that are removable and made of acrylic (plastic), nylon, or metal. They are designed to fit snugly over the gums, replacing missing teeth and eliminating potential problems caused by gaps.
Gaps left by missing teeth can make eating and speaking difficult, and teeth on either side of the gap may grow into the space at an angle.
Dentures can help with eating and speech issues. If you need full dentures, they may also improve the appearance of your smile and give you confidence.
Although we are renowned for our implant dental work at our onsite laboratory, we also specialise in crafting bespoke dentures – ranging from 1 tooth to complete upper and lower dentures. Our Dorset denture and dental artisans take pride in creating lifelike dentures, detailing not only the teeth on the dentures but also the pink gum aspect for patients in Bournemouth, Poole and nationwide.
We layer the muscle contouring and gum shading on our dentures to ensure that when they are in your mouth they are camouflaged against your own anatomy. Tooth and gum shades will always be decided with our patients fully included in the decision, it is important that you are happy with every step of the process.
Our award-winning lead clinician has worked alongside some of the top specialists in their respective fields, from complex restorative cases on implants; to difficult procedures in a hospital environment, she has an in-depth understanding of how to best support patients. And if you need a referral to the specialists then she’ll be able to get you on that journey as quickly as possible.
You’ll be safe in the knowledge that not only can she understand your concerns, plan your treatment and deliver on it; but she can also create your dentures herself.
We have different options available so we can cater for all patients regardless of whether cost or aesthetics are your top priority; you can be safe in the knowledge that the quality of the function will never change.

We can create brand new dentures for you in just one day, either through our laboratory working closely with your dental practice or by seeing you in our clinic, you can leave with a new smile all crafted for you whilst you wait. We use the most advanced techniques in dentistry, enabling our fully qualified dental technicians to create the most aesthetic results. Learn more about our process below.
1
For the initial consultation, you will first sit down with our Clinical Dental Technician (Denturist), who will listen to what you want to achieve from your smile. You can also see the different materials that can be used to make your denture so that you’re fully involved from the get-go.
For example, there are multiple materials for denture plates: the traditional acrylic ‘all pink’ dentures, Cobalt Chrome ‘metal dentures’, flexible dentures and ‘PEEK’ – this is a relatively new material in dentistry although it has been in medicine for many years, it’s extremely bio-compatible (body-friendly), very strong! (fracture resistant), neutral-tasting, AND extra thin!
This is just a sample of some of the options you will be shown in your first appointment. If you would like to go ahead we may need a check-up first with one of our dentists who will make sure you are dentally fit before continuing. The Dentist and Clinical Dental Technician will then prepare a treatment plan for you which will outline everything discussed and the costings.

So, you’ve met your Hive Denturist, discussed your options and now you’re ready for your new smile! Firstly, we will answer any questions you have and make sure you are 100% happy.
Then we will begin with some impressions: we will be using impression material to take a mould of your mouth to get a perfect new denture. The material we use in the clinic is completely harmless: the main ingredient is seaweed. So, sit back and relax in our dental spa!
These moulds will enable us to recreate your mouth in our award-winning laboratory so that we can create a bespoke impression tray that will fit every curve & dip in your mouth. This allows us to take another impression at your next denture appointment that will be a very accurate representation of your mouth.
In some cases we don’t take impressions at all: we can take an intraoral scan of your mouth to stitch together a 3D model of your mouth, allowing a greater level of accuracy and negating the need for the second impression appointment when creating a new denture. You will discuss this at your initial consultation and you will be advised as to what is best for you.
We will then schedule you an appointment anytime up to 7 days that suits you for your next stage.

You’re new bespoke trays are eagerly awaiting some impressions. This will be the same process as before but with your new denture trays. We will also take an ‘occlusal registration’, that means assessing how your upper and lower jaw come together harmoniously. We use wax for this technique, moulding it to the missing tooth areas of your mouth and getting you to bite together into it.
You’re sat up the entire time we are doing these stages, with ample time for us to show you what we are doing and talk you through each stage.
We also pick the colour (shade) of your teeth. If you still have some of your own teeth we can colour match to ensure you have a seamless smile. Or if you’re going for new teeth all together we can advise you on the most natural colour of teeth for your skin tone & age etc.
We also choose the shape, taking measurements and ensuring you have the right shape of teeth to match your facial anatomy. If you managed to bring in any old photographs of you smiling then this is the appointment where we can analyse the photos with you to get the right shape and shade.

Now your bespoke models have been cast, your wax occlusal registration (wax bite) has all been aligned and the teeth have been carefully chosen in colour and shape. Our dental artisans have used all the information you have given them with the measurements and models to create your new dentures in wax! This appointment is the final one before the big reveal of your new teeth. We want you to be 100% happy with how the teeth are, their positioning. How much lip support it gives you etc.
We can make adjustments, if necessary, chair-side to ensure you are smiling ear to ear with the aesthetics of your new teeth. Then, and only then, do we take the waxed up versions of your dentures and go ahead with booking your final fit appointment.
5
The day has come, you may have your old dentures in as you arrive but you know they are soon to be your back up pair!
Upon arrival at the Hive dental clinic, we will ensure your new teeth fit comfortably. It is normal to need minimal adjustments chair-side, ensuring that you bite together properly.
We will get you to say some tongue-twisting sentences to ensure you’re happy with how they feel when talking.
Denture aftercare instructions will be explained to you, and you will leave with the aftercare in paper form. Any questions you have regarding the new teeth will be listened to and answered. You will also get to leave with all your dental models for you to keep in case you need them, after all, you paid for them! Then when you are happy to go and try your new teeth out, we will book you a follow up appointment for 3-4 weeks time to ensure everything is going as planned with you teeth.
