How do dentures work?

Dentures, also known as false teeth, can fill in the gaps where natural teeth are missing.

Aesthetically, dentures can help with a person’s confidence in their appearance, did you know a study of 1000 men and women were shown an image of a woman with clean and healthy teeth. Another cohort of 1000 men & women were shown an image of the same woman, but this time her teeth appeared stained, seemingly unhealthy. Following these images the cohort of people were asked a series of questions. The results of the cohorts opinions were as follows:

• Stained or unhealthy looking teeth age a person by 13+ years
• 68% believe healthy looking teeth indicate a university education
• 70% believe people with stained, unhealthy looking teeth must have gone to a state school
• 82% think you earn more money if you have healthy looking teeth
• Men rank a ‘gorgeous smile’ higher than a ‘great figure’
• 40% of men think women with unhealthy teeth must be single.

Results like this indicate what a detrimental impact, from a mental health perspective, it can have on you if your teeth aren’t deemed ‘healthy looking’.

Dentures are to be worn all day with your meals and must be removed at night for hygienic reasons.

Dentures can be made from a number of materials including; acrylic, cobalt chrome, Poly Ether Ether Ketone (PEEK). These are all durable biocompatible materials.
